Hi: I recently purchased a Vaio Z and love it to death; although, I have one small (yet very very frustrating) problem with the computer. What basically happens is i would be searching/browsing on the internet and all of a sudden the connection would die out and I could not go to another web page. From their i would have to disconnect and reconnect to my Wireless Home Internet Connection to get it working again only to experience the same problem a little later. The Vaio Z uses an Intel WiFi Link 5100 AGN, and I have it updated to the latest driver. Also, I disconnect, the internet connection sign at my Vista Taskbar shows that is connected and working even though it really isn't. Please help me resolve this issue as it can be a major nuisance. Thanks Guys

This happens only at home or everywhere?

That happened to me as well at first. The problem was related to my router -- after updating the firmware the problem disappeared.

I would suggest testing it on a different wireless network (perhaps if a neighbor has left theirs unsecured) and see if you encounter the same issue.

I've had this problem quite a lot in a mixed network I use with a Linksys draft-N access point - and this is pretty much across the board with the Sony's.

It does seem to be a problem of the access point, or at least the interplay of the WLAN adapter with the AP. If I power cycle the AP, the problem is solved until it happens again.

The new unibody Macs seem to have similar problems with the Sony's, and the problem seems to be especially bad when I have both living on the same WLAN.

The older Macs and new Dells (I have no idea what's in the XPS 16, but I opted for the 3x3 wireless option as far as the Precision Covets are concerned) connect slightly more consistently.

I'm grasping at straws but it could be a draft-N issue I guess? I'd like to solve it too. Any suggestions for reliable AP's for draft-N use with a variety of machines which has an SPI FW?

I had this problem too (with my TT, which I believe has the same wireless chipset, connected to a new linksys n router). It was really bad initially, although I changed some settings and it seems to be mostly ok now.

Try changing the type of wireless security you're using, & also some of the options for the wireless adapter -- set the power for the adapter to 'full', and the 802.11n channel width to 'auto' for both 2.4 and 5.2ghz. There was a message somewhere on this forum (not necessarily the sony forum) with tips on configuring the 5100, search around and you might find more info.

Could this be just a Linksys problem?

You might want to restore your computer back to factory settings using the recovery DVDs.
