I had questions for those of you that purchased a CTO Sony Vaio FZ laptop. Answers would be greatly appreciated to my following questions:
1.) Is the CTO Sony Vaio FZ laptop made in China or the U.S.A.? (I know retail ones are made in China)
2.) Are the CTO Sony Vaio FZ laptops built really well, like when you get the CTO laptop, does it have anything loose, broken, not positioned right, etc... or is it built really good in the factory?
3.) How does Sony ship the CTO Sony Vaio FZ laptop and when it is shipped, is it protected in foam like the laptops in retail stores, if not, is it secured as so the laptop doesn't get damaged or damaged in transit? (Pictures would be helpful)
4.) Is there a high percentage of dead and/or stuck pixels with the Sony Vaio FZ HiColor LCD panels? (I went to Fry's and noticed at least one)
5.) How can I get free ground promotion upgraded to free overnight shipping? (I believe overnight shipping ensures the laptop isn't moved around as much as ground shipping, therefore reducing the dead-on-arrival percentage).
6.) How can I get a CTO Sony Vaio FZ for less money, by phone, online, etc...?
7.) Are there really that many problems with the CTO/Non-CTO FZ laptops as reported on this forum or is it just limited cases? Are heat issues really that widespread and does the FZ laptop get hotter with higher specs than lower ones? Will it potentially get so hot as to melt the plastic chassis and components inside the chassis or damage them? Potentially cause a fire? Design flaw?
8.) Is it known when the updated FZ laptops will be released for CTO and retail? (It looks like the FZ gets a better webcam and a better video card and possibly other better changes)

BUMP...
Really, ANY answers to any of my listed questions would help.... -
you can find most of the answers throughout the forum. search.
you probably arent getting any answers because a few of your questions are quite absurd.
do you really think a company could/would sell a notebook that would melt its own chassis and/or start a fire??? LOL. -

Can we get an Amen, brothers and sisters? I was thinking the same thing, but decided to just let it pass. Glad you spoke up!

I got a CTO FZ from Sonystyle japan.
1) Mine was assembled in Japan, and I remember hearing that USA Sonystyle ones are assembled in USA, at least about the final assemble.
2) I am happy with the build of FZ, better than 1520 I returned, although that doesn't say a lot.
3) When I got it, it was standard small Vaio Box inside a big sonystyle box, with papers to absorb shocks between two boxes.
4) I don't have any bad pixels.
5) I don't know about this. Sonystyle Japan offers free-shipping to all purchase, and in japan, most of shippings are done overnight.
6) No idea, sorry.
7) Left side of the laptop can get quite warm, especially when gaming. However, note that FZ has full-metal chassis, which also function as heat-spreader. Inside components seem to stay reasonably coll.
8) No idea. -
I think you guys are being a little harsh. Yes, the answers are here but most of them are in the 101 page FZ owners thread. I'm feeling generous today, so here goes:
1. Final assembly in USA of components made in China.
2. The left mouse button is the only consistently reported oddity. I've had two FZ190s, both with left mouse buttons a little funky, and they felt different from each other as well.
3. It's wrapped in a heavy clear plastic sheet, similar to cling wrap, and suspended in the middle of the box. Quite ingenius if you ask me - it offers great protection using minimal material.
4. Not really. My first one developed a stuck pixel (red) after about 2 weeks, but I returned it because one of the backlights went out. I haven't heard of backlight problems from anyone else.
5. Good luck. Sony charges an extra $90 for overnight shipping, which is ridiculous. And its how they make their money, so they're not going to give ti up.
6. Better deals are had by phone.
7. The laptop will shut itself down before it starts a fire.
8. Dunno. -
I paid only $5 for overnight shipping. I don't think sony gives a better deal thru phone.

I had researched a lot about laptops and I returned three of the four I bought. But you know what ur questions are quiet annoying.
