I need to know if I can put put DDR2 667 PC2 5300 ram in a SZ-220/b. It comes with DDR2 533, but the bus speed is 667. I want to upgrade to 2 gigs and I'd like the fastest ram possible. I've heard that this laptop isn't Dual Channel, but I was wondering if that's true or not.

    Thanks

Yes you can put ddr2 667MHz ram in there and it will work fine. You just have to take out all the 533 ram and replace it completely with 667 ram. If you mix the two speeds, the new ram will downclock to match the other one. And they will run in dual channel, whoever said otherwise has been sniffing too much lead based paint lately.

The 667Mhz RAM will still run at 533Mhz. The higher speed RAM I looked at also had higher latencies, which means at 533Mhz is will be slightly slower than original 533Mhz RAM. Only really noticeable in benchmarks though.

I upgraded the RAM in my SZ last week and had to make the same decision. I decided to buy 533Mhz RAM even though the 667Mhz RAM was exactly the same price.

If you plan on keep the RAM when you sell your laptop then go for the higher speed RAM as you will be able to use it in the future. If the RAM will only ever be used in the SZ then stick with 533Mhz.
