Questions about the Z

Do you think a refresh is going to be available for the Sony Vaio Z anytime soon? Like will they make available the various cosmetic designs for the cover like they have on their japanese sony vaio site or shown at conics http://conics.net/catalog/product_info.php?currency=USD&cPath=22&products_id=307 . I mean I tried configuring one, and it got more pricier than what you get on the US sonystyle website.
That leads to my other question, are japanese cto's more reliable than US ones? Also the 3 year warranty that you get with conics requires you to ship it back to japan for repairs right? Or can you get it done in the US?
My other question is also do you think the educational discount will be back again? I missed it since I was out of town, and being in school the educational discount sounds to be very useful particularly since I am looking at the 590cto with the 256 mb vram. I wish Amazon.com carried that version with a lower price tag than $3238.99.

Depending on the region, Sony refreshes every 3 - 6 months.

I doubt Sony will make the designs available in Japan elsewhere.

More reliable? Don't know, but all my computers have been imported from Conics or Dynamism, and my CTO Z from Japan is impeccably built.

Yes, with the warranty on a Japan Z, you need to send it to Conics who would send it to Sony.

Also, is the sony of ADH warranty really worth it? I mean how many situations have there been where people have taken advantage of it? Additionally, correct me if i am wrong, I think I read someone say that this warranty is only valid for only one incidence, is that true?

I do understand that after purchasing such a expensive laptop as the Z, you should cover it with a suitable warranty. Any feedback is very much appreciated ^^. Thank you.

 

Whenever I get my Sony laptops from Japan, I get the wide warranty which is the equivalent of ADH here. It's worked for me on nearly every laptop since I'm on the road a lot and invariably it'll need fixing at some point. Sony Japan has never questioned anything. My U70 went in twice and they fixed it both times, no issue.

I can't speak to Sony USA if you go for a USA model. There are plenty of threads to ask about that.

I live in MA. It's roughly equivalent depending on your options. For example, I got the SSD config with the 1366x768 - a combo you can't get here. You need to go through an importer like Dynamism, Conics, or pricejapan. Plus, you can get some options (like the different covers for the top of the laptop) you can't get here.
