Hello,
I've got a new VGN-A197VP and have some questions to better-informed users. I will come up with more, so I thought it was better to start a new thread.
1) Sony states that the A197VP has an S-video out connector, but it's simply a 3,5 mm jack for video. I connected a headphone cord and got an OK picture, but I would like to know what kind of adapter I can get to use my existing S-video cable (I would hate to connect more cables seeing how dead stuck the current ones are). What do you use to connect your A-series to a TV?
2) As something of a sub-question, I would also like to know if there's any way to change to the TV screen without having to go into video options in Windows XP each time. It's getting tedious. If I could bind the S1 hotkey to this feature, I'd be really happy.
3) Is there a possibility to use both the monitor and the TV simultaneously? I know that newer stationary computers can playback a video in fullscreen on the TV while still having their monitors showing Windows. Is this possible?
4) Sony states that the A197VP is capable of dealing with a maximum of 1 GB RAM - 2x 512 MB modules - but I've read that users have successfully installed 1024 MB modules. In addition, Crucial.com lists the 1024 module as compatible with the A197VP. Do you guys know anything about this?
Thanks in advance.

Hows it going Lundmark? I have the VGN-A190 but I couldn't find any reference to the VGN-A197VP anywhere on Sony's site... I might be able to help with a couple of your questions though.
#1 Mine came with the Port Replicator(docking station) and there is an S-video port on the station, the laptop itself does not. Laptop has an A/V connector(3.5mm).
#2 Try holding the Function(Fn) key and hit F7, that should switch from LCD to external.
#3 No idea, never tried...sorry.
#4 Again, cannot find reference to the VGN-A197VP but, the VGN-A190 is upgradeable to 2GB of RAM(DDR PC2700).
Hope this helps some. Hopefully someone else can help further.
