Specifically those with the blu ray writers.

I'm currently using a z with a blu ray for some highly specialized (and huge file size) data collection.

Burning it to a 25GB or 50GB blu ray disk is an option I'm looking at due to limited internet connectivity speeds where I would be using the computer.

So three questions related to this...

    1. Compatibility- Is it fairly solid yet? Will the disks i burn on the sony be readable on a PC with an LG or other brand drive? (I remember real challenges from early dvd recorders)

    2. Practicality. I have pretty much ruled put using portable hard drives because of durability concerns. (same reason that the z has an SSD drive) because of the rough environments. So the question here is should a i be looking at flash storage instead? Regardless I would need something that holds at least 20GB

    3. Long term archival capability- Once the data is captured it mostly sits on a shelf until it needs to be viewed/analyzed. My understanding is that BDs exceed recordable DVD's in this area. Flash memory there does not seem to be any consensus.

Anyone that has any experience or thoughts on this, I'd love to hear it.

    Thanks in advance,
    G

    1) My oldest Flash memory, which is 128 MB and is something like 5 years old (I think), still works fine. They are pretty durable.

    2) There are already flash drives holding 32 GB for sale for relatively cheap prices. This would ensure compatibility with any system with a USB port (i.e. any laptop except a MacBook Air with an external mouse).
