I have a questions when it comes to memory on laptops. I currently have a VGN-T350 and Sony states that its max ram is 1GB with 512MB which is not removable. Since joining this site, I discovered that because my computer has an intel i855 chipset, its memory can really be maxed out to 1.5GB.

Now why would Sony only state that it can go to 1GB if this is not true. Is it because at the time it was released, there wasn't a 1GB microdimm being manufactured at the time? Or is it something to do with stability?

Is this common on other Sony products where the product is actually capable of more memory but Sony only states a lesser amount. My other laptop is a VGN-S260. How do I find out what chipset is in this model and its max memory compatibility?

I know there are a lot of questions but I'm in the market on purchasing memory for both my laptops and I want to make a good decision because those suckers are EXPENSIVE. A 512MB MicroDimm is about $80 but a 1GB is over $250 and MicroDimm is so VERY rare. Why?

Thanks for any responses... I'm so confused.
