    SIMPLIFIED QUESTION:
What is the difference between Restore C: Drive and Restore Complete System when using the Recovery Partition instead of the Recovery Discs? With the Recovery Discs, the difference was that the Restore Complete System option deletes and if you choose, restores the recovery partition whereas the Restore C: Drive option would leave the recovery partition alone. When using the Recovery Partition, I assume that the Restore Complete System option won't remove the Recovery Partition (please confirm my assumption!) so, isn't it the same as the Restore C: Drive option?

    Original Post:

    Hi,

With the Recovery Discs, there are 2 options
    1. Restore C: Drive
    2. Restore Complete System

Restore C: Drive only restores the C: drive and does not delete any other partitions

Restore Complete System removes all partitions (including the Recovery Partition) and restores the C: drive + recovery partition (if you choose to have it restored)

    Here's my question:
If I use the Recovery Partition instead of the Recovery Discs and select Restore Complete System, would it remove the Recovery Partition like it would if I used the Recovery Discs and selected that option? With the Recovery Partition, there doesn't seem to be an option to "keep vaio value added contents" like there would be if I used the Recovery Discs.

If it does not remove the Recovery Partition, then what is the difference between Restore C: Drive and Restore Complete System when using the Recovery Partition?

    Thanks in advance!

If you use the CD it will most likely erase the Recovery artition. Becuase, the recovery partition is for reinstalling your OS, without/when you have no CDs.

So, if you do it through the Recovery Partition, im sure it wont erase itself...

i think i got your question right....

i think there is microsoft sytem restore which restore windows to an earlier point, and there is also full system restore which formats the C: and reinstall windows again, if you want me to check i can as i use this recovery alot, i always use full system restore from the harddrive and it only format and reinstall windows on the C: without messing with any other drives

I have not tried it myself, so take my words with caution.

I believe there would only be a difference if you have added more partitions for dual booting another OS like linux or windows. The new OS, would be on a different partition than C:

If you restore C: I think (but am not positive) that your linux OS would not be destroyed.

If you restore complete system the HD will be reformated and the extra partitions will be removed.

I don't think the recovery partition will be lost with either option.
