    Straight to the point:

The textile on the mousepad is no good in my view, but i guess thats just personal preference.

I left the laptop on its own and at random intervale the fan startet to blast off... its very loud!.

the sound system is the worst i have seen on a sony equipment. a sony product with this ty speakers are very surpricing.....

maybe they accidently made the fan loud and the speakers quite... who knows the engineer might have overlooked this one.

the screen isnt all that great...the wide edges on the sites and above makes the screen look very small .... the laptop itself is larger than z11 yet its only a 13 inch. this is the most dissapointing part of the laptop. if they filled the screen out atleast to the same size as the z11, i would appreciate this alot more.

keyboard is alright, it really depends on your typing. u quickly get used to it. at first, u feel u use alot more strength however, u get the hang of it.

Hybernating isnt that great, not sure if that is a windows limitation... however i use hibernating alot, i hardly shut down my laptop.... and i only see a slide improvement in speed compared to the z11.

The best part of the sony uk verion which has raid ssd is the actual read and write speed... with a read speed upto 1gb/s it takes me 3 seconds to start photoshop. amazingly fast :)

overall i would still have got this laptop... simply because of the design and the power it has....

all other laptops out there is either great design, thin + low spec or high spec + thick laptops, heavhy.

This is the only laptop which i found to be looking great yet very light and still the second most powerfull laptop out there.

btw this laptop was a custom made one.... how does it work with warrenty ?
if i dont register then how will they know when i bought it... with the z11 the day i registered, was the day they counted 1 year from.. what if i register this laptop in a few months time ?

    spec:
    i7
    256ssd
    8gb

Did you have Task Manager running (I keep it in the system tray) so you could check what the CPU usage was at the times the fan ramped up, and what was causing this? For all you know it is the VAIO content analyser going through the media files on your system, or something equally stupid.

3 seconds to start Photoshop for the first time after a reboot? That's impressive.

wait you are on SSD why would you use hibernation instead of sleep? (including your Z11 too)

All the more reason, I would have supposed. A system with SSDs would hibernate pretty darn quick. IMO that is the biggest downside of hibernation - the entire contents of RAM get written to disk, and when you have several GB of RAM, that can take a while.

When you get a warranty repair they make you show proof of purchase/date of purchase. The when/if you register doesn't really matter at all.

hibernating is pretty much z11 same speed.... my sony z11 is a sata.
booting from hibernate is though a little faster. but i am not impressed.... the mac was alot faster last i checked. pretty much instantly.

Sony used to give 2 year warrenty if u register within 30 days.... i did that... i registered it 15 days after i got the laptop.. and the warrenty was calculated from the day i registered, i needed not to show any proof of purchase...as sony goes by the registration date. also i never received any proof of purchase, only by mail. anyone can modify an electronic document....i assume they must have record of what laptops are sold when... unless thats against the law to keep such data.

    update:
anyone tried the webcam on msn skype ? no good.... in fact soo bad that i had to go back to my z11 ... its stuttering and freezing ... not sure whats up with thi mic and cam.. i have 100mbit internet connection.

I know that Sony Hong Kong has it on record when the laptop was purchased.

They also require proof of purchase but if you don't bring it along they just look it up in their system.

AFAIK when you buy it, the seller logs the purchase into Sony's database. The serial number tells them everything they need to know.

Honest question.. why would someone use hibernate instead of standby? I've been using standby on my T400 for 3 years now, and I don't restart/shutdown my machine for weeks.

Depends on how long you want to keep your laptop in that state.

Standby still discharges the battery, albeit at a fairly slow rate. Eventually the battery will run out - may take days, but it will run out.

With hibernate you can leave it like that forever.

^Well, the original poster mentioned hibernating "a lot". That doesn't seem to be the intended use for it.

I use hibernate for two reasons:
    1) it doesn't run the battery down
    2) the laptop won't wake up when I don't want it to (e.g. when it's in my bag)

It's a little slower to resume but a lot safer.

as @anytimer said. They could just lookup when the store whoever you bought it from sold the product I think. If such a automated system was in place. That's pretty much how most big stores work these days. Not sure about the small fry.
