Ram Problem

My non-booting problem was the ram. In my vaio, there are 2 sticks of 256. I removed the 2nd stick in the 2nd socket and the vaio booted perfectly. Changed over the ram to check the ram stick that I removed and it also booted perfectly.

They just don't want to work together in any configuration. Cleaned the sockets with alcohol and still receiving the same problem. Could it be the ram sticks? Doesn't make sense but I think I've heard of it happening before. Thought I would ask for assistance before spilling out $60.

 

Very likely its the bridge that is not working. You will have to have the motherboard replaced.

 

Sounds like a motherboard issue, not a ram issue.

 

Thanks, Was reading other posts and found a thread in '03 with same issue. Sony had a problem with the ram sockets on some of the GRX models. Back then basically it was a $600 ish Sony repair. Guy in the thread (of over 60 posts on this subject) mention by keeping pressure on the two ram sticks, his vaio worked perfectly. I tried same and mine worked perfectly. I had a surplus sticky backed label in my desk draw so I peeled sticky backing and cut off a small strip and stuck it on each side of the stick thus holding it in further a millimeter +or-. Worked perfectly. Hope this helps lots...
