I don't know if other SR users have exprerienced poor sound quality from the SR like I did
But i updated my SR to the latest Realtek HD audio driver and the sound quality improved a lot!! it's still not perfect, but its a whole lot better than it was, there's no more buzzing sound when you listen to music on high volume or when playing a youtube video, etc.
I think if you're getting poor sound quality from your SR, your should download this driver, since it fixes the problem![]()
Vista Driver (32/64 bits) Driver only (ZIP file)

ahhh, the infamous streaming media noise will hopefully disappear! yay! Will download it when i get home, props for the suggestion!
-
Before this day, i was still using my old MBP to listen to music/movies/itunes stuff
but i'm gonna use my SR from now on
the sound is awesome (IMO)
i'm using a V-Moda Vibe headphones with the SR right now, and the sound is just amazing, strong clear bass, with no buzzing noise! -
thank you !! i will try it now and see if there is any improvement !!
-
how come the driver isnt posted on the sony webpage? I see they are not bringing their "A" game for driver support.
Anyways... i downloaded and installed it and bam, everything sounds crisper and clearer! -
i didnt notice any difference... the speakers sound the same, so does headphone output. am i missing something here? lol
-
The biggest difference, and what i was mostly referring to was the quality of streaming media... as before on youtube and other streaming videos there was some sound issues/distortion and now it is clear/perfecto!
-
even the speakers in the laptop sound better
-
but i still have the buzzing !!
-
I can listen to music on full volume without any buzzing noise...
but does it sound better when listening to music using headphones? -
now just the battery drain problem with this sexy laptop !! we have to find a solution for it -
is there an alternative download site. rapidshare is always busy. where to get the official driver?
-
the battery problem isn't that bad i still get about 3hours or more of battery life constantly.. so i guess im okay right now
and then click on HD Audio Codec Driver under Quick Links -
oddly enough, i spoke far too soon. The buzzing is still a problem, although not always...which is odd. Right after i dl'ed the driver...the buzzing seemed gone, but this morning i played some youtube/itunes and i heard a little buzzing... wierd
-
yeah i noticed that too.. but i think its barely noticeable and its a lot better than how it was..
-
Is this on the realtek site? If yes, which one? I can't download from Rapidshare, it says my IP is already downloading a file.
-
why is there the buzzing sound? this is the thing that most annoyed me with my FE
the Z im currently using is flawless..is the buzzing only on the speakers?
if i connect a earphone or external speakers will there still be a buzz? -
there is probably only the latest driver on the realtek site (link above) - that is where i downloaded the file. i downloaded the exe version. uninstall the existing one first (go to programs uninstaller).
buzzing in speakers is common if your volume is max or near-max. -
I updated mine before actually listening to music, so I'm not sure if it improved or not lol. But I don't have any buzzing issue with my laptop, BUT on particular songs, a specific pitch maybe; I start hearing this vibration i guess the one peopel are referring to. It appears to be a hardware issue, cuz if I hold down the speaker area, the sound is gone. :/ So ya just don't have the sound up too high.
-
but in my old FE, even with headphones i would get buzzing sometimes.. -
Sorry, to clarify, there is no Buzz via the headphone jack, I have Z-5300's plugged in and it sounds perfect. When just using the onboard laptop speakers, there is a slight buzz in certain "pitches" on certain types of audio...its not always there, but it's wierd.
-
There's an update which just released this month on the Realtek site. I am using it, no problems or any noticable differences so far. You can try it if you have any issues.
-
Nice observation, thanks for the update!

I have Sony VGN-SR290NTB. Everything is perfect except, the sound quality.
I do not know if that poor sound is because of the laptop speakers.
I also I have another 5-year-old sony (PCG-V505GP). and I can notice my new SR cannot even compare to the old one.
I love this SR290 since it's small and the price is reasonable. Though, it's portable, should we bring another pair of speakers along???? Sony really made a mistake with this.
I am so disappointed so far. -
I just received my SR290-CTO and while I really like everything about this notebook, I gotta say the speakers are total crap. they are fine for general purpose / web / youtube, but for music or watching a dvd they are pretty disappointing. they sound like if you plugged in headphones, laid them on your desk and turned the sound up high.
a better option is probably headphones / bluetooth. -
I have a SR-129E and I downloaded the update. After I unplugged my external speakers, the internal speakers don't work anymore. Can anyone help me?
-
-
Yeah I did that and I still didn't fix my onboard speakers
-
I had an odd issue the other day.. after gaming with headphones my internal speakers would not work. I haven't changed any drivers since I got my SR.
I ended up hitting volume up/down and mute a few times, then plugging and unplugging my external speakers in a few times and the internals started working again. !?! -
Yeah that's not working for me right now
-
My external speakers work perfectly fine and sound comes out but after I unplug them, the laptop (internal) speakers no longer work
