I just got my SZ640 from Newegg. When I opened the original box, it felt like things were not as tight as an unopened box should have been: the papers were a little shuffled, one cable was outside the plastic bag, etc. And I also noticed that no CD/DVDs came with the machine. Is this normal? Was this box opened/Did I get a second-hand or refurb. machine? I can't reach Newgg yet since it's the weekend, but it's pissing me off. I've always been happy with NE.

The SZ Series do not usually come with any CD/DVDs. All preinstalled software is on a recovery partition on the hard-drive. You can make recovery CD/DVDs using the "Recovery Tool" software that should be installed (and then if you want remove the partition to save space). As for the papers and cable that could be another thing but if the Sony seal on the box was unbroken when it arrived it should all be fine. Hope that helps.

There's yellow tape that keeps the baggies closed, was it removed that they got out? I've opened 4 different SZ's and all but one of the baggies looked used, they kind of had little dents in them but were all closed. Were the papers still in their bag?

Thanks for the recovery CD clarification. The white seal on the box was not broken, but no tapes on the baggies; all the baggies were open ended. The papers were not in a bag and free floating in the top compartment. The machine itself was inside plastic pocket wrapped around the cardboard frame, but no inner plastic bag around the machine itself. Maybe I'm just paranoid..
