I bought an FJ about 3 weeks ago, and I tried to burn the recovery dvds today, but the first one failed, and when I asked my dad if he knew why, he said that I needed to burn the recovery discs after the first boot of the machine. Is this true, or was it just a problem with the Samsung DVD-R that I used?
I did not try it again, because DVD media is kinda expensive (I am a really cheap person). I did not try it on CD-Rs becuase I really dont want 8 of them.
If that is true, and I am unable to burn recovery discs off the hard disc, would I be able to order them from Sony? If so, how much are they?
    Thanks.

You shouldn't be able to burn them after the initial boot since after that, burning would defeat the purpose of the recovery disk, which is to return your computer to the state in which you bought it. I would recommend calling Sony or doing a clean install and then find the drivers you need on sony's support site.

It probably was just a bad burn. Get your dad to buy you a few more DVD's or something. You can burn the recovery media at any time, and it will remain on a hidden partition on your HD until you might choose to do a clean install. My

My advice? Buck up and burn it. It never hurts to have it, and if you don't, you'll need it at some point and you'll kick yourself for not having it!
