    hi guys,
so i was wondering if it was possible to put the recovery disc info (the stuff that would usually go on the disc when you use the "VAIO Recovery Center") to an external hard drive? i was told by a sony salesman that it is possible but i dont see a way to do it...

thx for the help in advance guys :)

you would need partition copying software like Acronis True Image

... in which case you could just make a complete back up of your drive to an external

but say i have to reformat (after i make a back up to my external), then how do i reinstall vista? because sony did not give me a vista reinstall disc, which is why they say to make a recovery disc...

the software will let you make a bootable clone of your hd. clone to external.. then clone back to internal. if you clone the recovery partition after a format, you will need to boot from a cd (that you create in the software). it will then let you either run the recovery partition from the external.. or copy it back to the internal

I was looking for the option to make recovery disc images but the Recovery Center program doesn't even prompt for which burning device to use. It assumes you will burn to the DVD drive. Only way I can think of is to burn the recovery discs to a pair of DVDs and then extract the image of the DVDs to your external hard drive.

lol but if i do that then theres not rly any point to doing an extra step to the external hard drive.
    thx though
and jcovelli, i'm gonna go with your way and see how it works out

Well, it's nice to always have a back up whether you lose the recovery discs or the external hd dies.
