Hi, I own a VGN-Z37GD VAIO and I'm wondering what happens to the recovery drive once Vista is upgraded to Windows 7? Does the recovery drive also get updated or is it necessary to create a new one yourself? Any help is greatly appreciated.

Recovery partition should stay untouched, unless you explicitly delete the recovery partition during Windows 7 setup. It still retains the original factory image of the Z as when you first use the Z when you upgrade your Windows. It doesn't get updated or anything.

Ah ok. Is there anyway to update it to a Windows 7 version?

Its function is to restore the laptop's OS into its original factory condition, so no, you cannot modify it. Besides, what's the point of updating it to Windows 7? It's suppose to also act like a last resort if you messed up Windows and cannot access it anymore. Of course you'll lose all your data.

You can just use an image-ghosting application to create a backup of your OS. What I usually do is when installing a fresh installation of Windows is after it finished installing, I'd install all the drivers, utilities like WinZip or that sort, etc, then back it up into an image.
