    hello all,
i just want to know, is the current VAIO use this kind of technology on their lcd screen? i have a VAIO C use this kind of technology, but lately im quite disappointed with the brightness from the screen. it seem like it have not bright white even i have turn the brightness level to the highest lvl. the screen look like pale white under white light room. irony is when i use it in dark room, it's looks fine.

i have compare the screen with my sister, Acer, seem like Acer brightness is far more better.

is the screen brightness problem due to aging? like the faulty bulb(Cold Compact Fluorescent Lamp - CCFL) of the screen lcd. hope someone can give some thought. thanks.

That's really weird, I've never heard of a screen getting darker as it ages. I'm not sure if it's even possible. Is it still evenly lit? If not, it might be due to a faulty bulb but like I said, I don't know if that's possible. From my own experience, all I can say is that I really love my xbrite eco screen and wouldn't trade it for any other one.

All fluorescent lightbulbs grow dimmer over time, it's inherent to the physics laws that they use to produce light.

    how old is your laptop?

I'm not really sure why is your screen getting dimmer... the screen shouldnt start dimming after only one and a half year...

did you mess with the display settings or anything?

im on windows xp downgrade it by myself. it was Windows Vista Basic.
does the gpu (im on intel) graphics driver take roles in brightness lvl? and one thing im wonder is higher refresh rate give difference lvl of brightness too? >_>; sorry asking to much lol.

so anyone have other thought regarding this prob?
is it a hardware fault or software fault?

    thanks. >_<

    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
i guess i'll just live it like this. maybe its the effect of downgrade to xp i done before, as im too lazy to see the restore back to it's original state. i even asking my sibling whether if there is anything wrong with the screen, they said "hey, it's fine lol".
maybe my eyes >_>, too much programming/coding lately.

though, im satisfied when the screen show the color image.

Srry to hear about your problems, i quite love the HiColor screen on my FW.

hmmn is your brightness setting set to max? drivers updated? and not on power saver?

also Eco is a single lamp so it might just be aging, i would think its a bit too fast, but one never knows.

How old is the acer that you're comparing to?

All fluorescent bulbs dim over time. If you use it a lot it will dim faster. On the other hand, LED's don't dim over time. LED's also don't need to "warm up" to be at full brightness, they are at full brightness instantly. Same applies to LCD TV panels.

the acer is just few months(around 5 ~ 6months+), i cant recall the exact duration
yea, brightness is max, not on power saver and intel gpu is updated to its last update version (15 February 2008).

MxMoney : i see, thanks for the explanation. yeah, my vaio is the only computer i have and used it most of time.
