I think the title is self explanatory. I recently bought a VGN-NS135E and would like to freshly install Windows Vista but would like to omit any Sony/Vaio software. The laptop didn't come with any discs or anything. I understand Vista is on a partition but I'm unsure if I reinstall Vista that it won't install the Vaio stuff as well.
As an aside, is any of the Sony software essential or beneficial to my laptop, or does Vista alone do a well enough job?

I hate it when someone says this to me, but...check the sticky thread at the top of the forum. There's several links in it to clean/semi-clean Vista re-installation guides. Your laptop will mostly work with just Vista alone, but you'll probably need/want the proper video/ethernet/wireless drivers, and some of the Sony software to get all the Fn keys working.

I hear ya.I checked the sticky and found some guides but they were for specific Vaio laptops other than mine

I did it the easy way with Vaio TT. You can try to see if it works. It is quite simple, and do not have to download anything. No guarantee, since it works for me in TT.
1. Make a set of recovery discs. Shut down all applications, turn off wifi and any connected devices before you start.
2. Put disc1 in dvd drive and reboot. It will ask you questions (I choose to reformat into c and d drive), also agree to install vaio recovery center in c, but one answer is to re-install without sony software. After it installs vista, it may tell you that it will continue to install sony software. At this point, just hit cancel. After it reboots and vista is properly configured, you can go to vaio recovery center and run it. You will have a choice to re-install any of the sony programs and drivers. Choose the one you need. My choice is the ALP mouse pad, the battery management, vaio control center. You can un-install them if you do not like anything you installed, and then re-install again at will.
Take a look at this thread where I gave more details on post #7 and post #9. -
after the clean vista install, how many processes do u see after u start up? i havent done the clean install, and i have around 90 processes. just wondering if it is worth it.
