If I don't want to use the external GPU dock, what performance would I get with the standard Intel 3000 Graphics IF I DON'T GAME?

Should be fine. My Z1 chip (and the Z2's is much better) has no problems with 1080p video playback. Just make sure your laptop is not in Silent Mode, the CPU throttling will cause some stuttering!

I've done basic video editing plus a bunch of photo editing with Photoshop and I've not seen an issue with video speed. The one issue I've seen is that Adobe Premiere Elements will detect a generic display driver when I'm using the PMD and refuse to play video. If I'm using the internal Intel graphics it works fine.

It depends. There seems to be some gotchas with the ATI (yes, the Intel drivers on the Z come to you courtesy of ATI) drivers. You can forget OpenGL support for starters (and it's quite usable on a 'normal' i7 HD3000). Not sure what other hidden problems it has - perhaps looking in the Z2 display adaptor threads will yield some answers.

However if you're not going to use the PMD at all, then I guess you should be able to replace the Sony drivers with Intel drivers...? Once again, probably worth a look in the same threads.

Yes it's possible to use latest intel driver for HD graphics. It also enables back a higher OpenGL supports.

Btw, is it good enough to play the old UT2004 max details - 1080p ?
