Is it possible to purchase a separate remote control for VAIO AR, and make it work? Only their top model has one included.

I want to know the EXACT same thing.

trying to use the arrow keys and enter button in the dark when navigating a menu for a blu-ray movie, especially during special features, is almost impossible. I don't care if an add-on remote needs a USB receiver... I just want to be able to control blu-ray disc play with a remote.

    Help!!!

    (Sony AR here too)

The problem is that the mouse buttons and even the mouse cursor don't allow one to navigate menu options... literally only the directional arrow keys and enter button (to "select") on the keyboard perform that function. If a mouse had arrow keys and an enter button that duplicated these key functions exactly then it would work. But it doesn't look like the additional keys on that mouse do that.

If installing WMC on or vista home premium gets me the remote functionality with a MS remote, then that's also an option if those software upgrades aren't cost prohibitive. Anyone have more info?

I'm sure you can get any Expresscard remote that should work fine.

Yeah, I do wonder why Sony doesn't introduce a custom Sony remote for multimedia applications on their Vaios that can be slotted into the Expresscard slot....

    Hey Rahul,

new to this whole laptop thing so please pardon my lack of knowledge. What's an express card remote? Is that a remote that uses a USB IR adaptor like the PS3? Or is it a remote that duplicates keyboard functionality like the arrow directional keys or does it have standard "play/pause/fast forward" buttons etc.?

The remote requires a separate sensor in the main base laptop. So, eventhough you can buy one, it won't work with your laptop if it doesn't have the sensor.

Sony actually has a bluetooth remote control application on their cell phones (I can confirm the K800i and the C905i has this). There are 3 options to pick from in the menu: presenter, mediaplayer, and desktop. Works pretty well.

I quick google search comes up with this cell phone app page for generic bluetooth remote controls

Edit: Found a 1st party Sony brand bluetooth remote I saw a while ago at a local London Drugs (Canada), it was $99 CDN that time.

Don't know why, but this remote seems to be missing from Sony's website and pretty hard to come by.
