I have an sz450 and read a thread for another sony that suggested removing the battery if using the laptop on AC.

Other than the obvious power outage, are there other disadvantages to removing the battery when you plan to be using the laptop on ac?

    What are the advantages?

Is it better for battery life?
Is it cooler for the laptop? (I expect more hot air can get out via the open area and charging the battery probably generates some heat?)

Just curious what other's experience is?

The number of charge will be less, so the life of your battery can last longer.
The disadvantage is you machine will easily become unbalance, especially when you change the angle of your display.
Sony comes with battery care function which can extend the life of your battery. I always keep my battery in my machine.
I think it will give some more heat when charging, but when the battery is full, I think not much different when the battery is in or out.

after i undervolted, my temp runs at 36 degree celsius, and my battery is barely warm to the touch when i take it out. i personally dont think the "heat" will affect it that much at this point.
