Hey, I have a sony vaio CR series and I'm buying a sager np8662 but I'm kinda poor right now. So i was wondering if its possible to remove the cpu, ram sticks and HDD from my sony and put them in a np8662 bare bone and then upgrade when I get the money?

    Thanks.

As far as I know, removing the RAM and the HDD is very straight-forward in Sony laptops. It might differ somewhat depending on what model it is (that is, I think there's more screws in the CS line than with the newer SRs) but they are supposed to be pretty much user-swappable.

The CPU on the other hand is a tad difficult. There was a thread somewhere with an opened Vaio which showed the CPU attached to the heat sink. And it looked like it's pretty firmly in place; not exactly meant to be user-replaceable. Probably still doable if you're careful and know what you're doing. Removing the CPU naturally voids warranty.

Well, the CPU is not soldered on the CR series so you can remove it.
I'm not certain or not but you may have access to the CPU by removing some screws on the base of your laptop. If that is the case then removing the CPU is very easy. I think the Sager can support the CPU.

The hard drive would be compatible.

What is the model number of your Sony? Can you link to the Sager laptop also.

If the Sager has uses 200 pin DDR2 ram then you will be also able to use the ram.

If its attached to the heatsink will it be impossible to remove?
If its too hard to remove I don't want to risk breaking it. =/

Looking at this picture here you do get access to the CPU via the underside of the laptop. Removing the heatsink should not be hard.
