    Hi
I bought a Sony Vaio FW11E about 3 months ago, and I discovered a few days later when I took its powercord out of the power socket, which is housed in an extension around the hinge, which had come off.
The extension housing the powersupply socket came off (its bound to the body by one frail bridge). I had been using the laptop normally, and it was in tip-top condition, until this happened. It wasnt misuse, and neither was it accidental, or even inconsistent with normal use...
I am unsure of what to do? I have a years warranty remaining on it, and it covers the hardware components. And would giving the laptop to Sony solve the issue. They say that if we find that warranty doesnt apply to this case they will charge me a diagnostic fees.
So I would like to know whether this is a genuine warranty case or not? And what the best route to take would be.
    Cheers
    Hasan

The way I see it, you have to get it fixed one way or another. I am sure you don't want to live with a damaged product.

Send it in for warranty repair, and tell them give you a call if warranty doesn't cover it. At which point, you can choose not to repair it. But like I said, I'd want to get it fixed one way or another.

Call Sony Support before you send this in, and have them write down in your record what you want done with your laptop. They are the best person to advise you on that. They may even tell you whether the warranty will cover it or not over the phone.
