Hi, I have a VGN-FE31Z European version and my graphic card is defective. When I turn it on, red and green graphics on the screen and after a few seconds the screen is complete black. After 20 times turning it on/off it's working for a while. Updated already the driver for the graphic card. It's a Nvidia GeForce Go7600. Is it possible to replace it by myself ?
    Thanks
    Frank

No, it is not a "card" it is part of the motherboard.

There is a thread about the issue with Nvidia cards on Sony laptops. In that thread we are collecting information about these sorts of failures. You need to call Sony Customer Services, and report this problem. They will tell you some story about them not knowing about other similar failures etc. etc. etc.

Be polite, tell them you know there is an issues with Nvidia chips failing (you might reference a couple of the case numbers we have collected thus far. They might offer to fix it for you at some reduced, although still excessive in light of this issues, price.

The important thing is get a case number, get the name of the rep you talk to. Note the date and time. Then add it to our list.

If we can compile enough data we might get theinquirer.net involved OR find a lawyer willing to file a class action.

Here is a link to the last page of our thread:

Sorry to hear that you're also affected. Just try to gather as much data as possible, maybe take photos of how the computer screen looks. Then join us in the link ScuderiaConchiglia posted!
