I know this has been asked many times already, but I am still confused about how well a large storage HDD can be integrated. If I plut in something like the ultrabay, wouldn't the case be opened and let in a lot of dust into the system? I watched a youtube video with someone trying to do the same on an older Z. He went the ghetto route and use full size SATA cable. At the end not only is there hole where the optical drive used to be, there's also SATA wire sticking out (yuck!).
And I read something about having the HDD would cause conflict with the system thinking there's a dvd spinning, making battery life suffer significantly.
My question is, is it worth it to do this mod on the Z?
EDIT: Anothing Thing I am concerning about is how to keep the HDD in palce? Mechanical drivers have the tendency to break if they won't placed in horizontally or veritcally.

This topic has been beaten to death already.
There are several threads on this for the Z series (old and new) and TZ.
Please search for results. -
According to this thread, there are some problem with voltage, especially with standard HDD (non-SSD). This problem is further supported by a posting stating there's clicking sound when running standard HDD due to undervolting.
Anothing thing is how did you fix the "hole" problem from your "working solution" thread? Of course you can take off the HDD plate and glue it down to the case, but is there any reversible way to fill the gap?
Right now I am eying on this :
2nd hard HDD Caddy Adapter For Thinkpad T400s T500 W500 - eBay (item 200471602772 end time May-14-10 18:46:21 PDT)
I assume it's very similar to the Ultrabay III since it supports [ThinkPad T400/T400s/T500/W500 and ThinkPad X200 UltraBase ]. And I plan to get this 640gb HDD. Will they work?
Replace optical drive with mechanical HDD?
