I have a Sony Vaio laptop with a dead Toshiba MK8007GAH HDD. I looked this up on Sony parts and it is discontinued. When I looked to purchase a replacement part up online, it costs $350-$400 for the same drive. This laptop only needs to be a backup so I was wondering if a MK6006GAH would also work.

I need to reload XP with the restore DVD anyway, so I don't need one with a restore partition on it.

So will a Toshiba MK6006GAH drive (or smaller) work in that laptop?

    Many thanks,

The critical factor is the connector. Span.com has details of most 1.8" HDDs and shows that the MK8007GAH has a 50 pin ATA connector. I'm a little surprised by this since my G11 has the MK1011GAH which has the ZIF connector. Are you able to see and check the connector type? It is possible that the old TX series used the bigger connector.

TX750P uses small 40pin ATA connector, so MK6006GAH definitely works with your laptop.
