So I bought a VAIO AR some time back. Beautiful machine, but shipped with a dead pixel. That was well and good...but then it became two...then three...then five...
Fast forward to today, and I have around 13 dead pixels and Sony gives me the same spill that "Dead pixels are a normal part of the manufacturing process, and even if we did replace it, you're not guaranteed better results." Gee, thanks Sony. I'm glad you're protecting me from the disappointment of 14 pixels. (Though, if things progress as they have for 4 months, I may have 20 before its over with.)
Either way...idly considering purchasing a new LCD from Screentek. Is the process as easy to do yourself as they claim? I'm very particular about my things, and the idea of gouging the finish trying to remove screw covers, or worse, doing so and still not getting the case open at all, worry me somewhat. ARs also have a built in camera and that little glowy logo lamp at the bottom, which I feel I may ALSO screw up.
Anyone with experience modding their ARs or replacing LCDs in general, your comments would be appreciated. Thanks.

Sony should replace your screen. I believe their dead pixel policy is that you have either 5 dead ones, or around 5. You have alot more, and I would keep on their back until they replace your screen. Try and see if you can find their terms and conditions regarding the number of dead pixels, and then quote them it, because its likely its a lower number than you have now.

vaio ar disassembly guide:

make sure you have the right size screwdriver to all screw, if you don't have it, find it in the store first before you try to disassemble such thing as a laptop. -
Ask Sony to replace it if the problem is really that bad. send it in for service. you dont need to take any risk.
