Hello. I have sucessfully upgraded my display from 1600x900 factory order to one I bought on ebay. The new one is 1080p. I think, for some reason, I feel it might be a tad dimmer than the 900p, but the screen is so darn sharp!

Anyway, I got it from: B131HW02 V 0 New Sony Vaio VPC Z 13 1" HD LED LCD Screen Fit LT131EE11000 | eBay
it was only $260 USD + shipping. (think about 272$ was the charge on my card).

I recommend buying from that seller if he has anymore.

No dead pixels. But gosh, the font is definately smaller than the 900p. its noticable for sure!! (i dont want to mess with 125% DPI).... and what, phones come with the resolution in 1/3 the screensize. yeah i know.

I will upload pics of the board. They look identical except for the board at the bottom of the LCD, and the replacement one says AU Optronics MADE IN JAPAN.

Considering i've seen people spending $300-600 for replacement screen, i thought i'd let you know it can be had for cheap. Even cheaper than that in some instances, but I got mine brand new, factory sourced...smells like new motherboard manual in shrinkwrap :)

Regarding the brightness, check in VAIO Control Center that it's able to reach 100% when the Automatic brightness is disabled. If it is not, try delete (export a copy first) [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Sony Corporation\VAIO Event Service\Settings\VESAutoDimmer] and restart.

Silly question because the same video driver current drives my VPCZ1 via HDMI to HDTV at 1080.
My current resolution is 1600 x 900 and if i upgraded, wouldn't assume i need a new video card, right?
    Thanks in advance

No. Your current video card will do fine.

Note that you will have to do considerable disassembly and reassembly work in order to replace this. If you are fairly handy with such stuff, fine, otherwise you'll need to find someone to help you change screens. Like a geeky friend or your local laptop repair guy.
