Hello! Lurker for a while but first time poster here.

This is my situation: My sister has a Sony Vaio notebook. She dropped a book on top of the computer and cracked the LCD screen. I've tried to replace the LCD twice with supposedly compatible LCD screens. None of which have worked. The replacement screens look just as the cracked screen, they are identical, but when connected they show no light or any image whatsoever, just pure black. Whilst connecting the broken LCD screen works immediately. It turns on and I see part of the image where possible. The laptop works great, proven by connecting it to an external LCD.

The first screen I got was this one: "New 15.5" WUXGA Glossy LED Screen For Sony Vaio VPCCB2SFX" from Amazon.com. No luck.

Amazon.com : New 15.5" WUXGA Glossy LED Screen For Sony Vaio VPCCB2SFX : Computers & Accessories

The second one I got was this one: "15.6" 1920x1080 LED Screen for LG PHILIPS LP156WF1(TL)(C1) LCD Laptop" from eBay.com. No luck. And yes the laptop is supposed to have that resolution since a sticker states 1080p HD.

15 6" 1920x1080 LED Screen for LG Philips LP156WF1 TL C1 LCD Laptop | eBay

I've taken the old LCD out and the model states clearly "LG LP156WF1(TL)(C1)" I was certain the second screen was goint to work.

I don't know what else to do, as the model in the old LCD is just what I ordered. :( I did notice that the one I got from eBay was sort of a matte screen. While the broken one is glossy.

    The laptop model is:
VPCCB (located lower right of screen)
PCG-71713L (located at bottom of the computer)

Attached are photos of the computer.

    Thank you very much!

Does the old LCD has light up at all if you plug it back?
I would suspect you are having blown fuse if you have led back-lit LCD.

Post your laptop full model number. It is printed on a sticker underneath your laptop or go to bios.
15.5" and 15.6" screens are totally different. You need to confirm the exact model of your laptop and LCD.
If your old (broken) LCD still works though, then the problem is the new one.
It's either wrong model or broken.

Thank you very much for your response. Attached are pictures of the bottom of the laptop, a picture of the broken LCD (where it shows the model) and a picture of the new LCD with invoice details.

I see what is your problem now.
Your broken LCD model is LP156WF1. The new one you got is not.
It is for IBM/Lenovo laptop because only them have FRU number.
The label with Stock # and saying Compatible Screen covers LCD actual model number.
It is B156HW01 V4 which is made by AUO while yours is made by LG Philips.
Most CCFL LCDs with same size are compatible, but with LED LCDs, I am not sure.
Anyway, you got a wrong model even though seller says it's compatible.

Hey ngvuanh, thank you for your answer.

I've contacted the seller with this information which is great, I couldn't understand why the screen wasn't working if it was supposed to be the exact same one. I really appreciate your help.

Yeah your mistake is that you bought LG LP156WF1 TLC1 15.6" when you should have bought one that is LG LP156WF1 TL C1 15.5" specifically made for sony. Sony laptops are very picky when it comes to screens as you can see on this link as I bought that screen too. Buy the one that says "FOR SONY ONLY" it's $83.99 that screen will work on all 1080p LED Vaio 15.5" laptops.

https://www.laptopscreen.com/English/screen-part-number/LP156WF1(TL)(C1)/ P.S. also that is the original LG screen Sony uses and not a replacement or cheap screen from china so it's definitely worth the money.

    I should've asked here first. Hahaha :(

Thank you very much next4nextel for the link, I hope the third one is the charm!

I'll try to return the old one so I can buy that one ASAP.

    Thanks again.

OK, your laptop comes with 15.6' LCD, not 15.5', even though the first LCD you bought from amazon seller who claimed it is for your laptop.
I am just curious why they had to cover all information on the back of the LCD. It's just to get more chance to sell their stuffs even though buyers may return because of compatibility issue just as yours.
In most case, you have to get the same model, otherwise it may not work at all.
With the amazon seller, I am not sure what they are selling even though they claim it is for your laptop. Who knows if they are right or wrong.
