    Newbie here

    - Can you take off the HDD that comes with the SA easily?
    - Can you run a SSD drive at SATA3 speeds mounted where the optical drive would be?
    - Are there any caddies that match the Carbon Mesh Black color?

    - Do you lose the warranty doing any of these?

Yes, no, I don't know, keep the existing drive for warranty purposes.

i have no idea abt warranty but using the optical drive slot for ssd wont justify the speed. in my sb it runs on sata1 speed and not even sata2. but replacing hdd with ssd gives the full sata3 600MB/sec. taking off hdd off SA shud be same as SB. chk the SB/SA thread first page for details.

So you could put a ssd where the factory hdd is and then move this one to the optical cage?

That is exactly what many of us have done, yes.

Today I bought a Vaio VPCSA4C5E. Earlier I ordered an HDD caddy from newmodusUS. When putting the a HDD (5400RPM only data) into the caddy and sliding it into the optical drive my laptop did not recognize the drive.

Can't see it in disk manager either. Anyone suggestions?

    Thx!

If you open it up (takes three small screws) there are two wires running down to the led. Disconnecting them should do the trick.

UPDATE: Today I received a new caddy from NewmodusUS. This worked directly without any problems. Although there is no visual damage to the first caddy I received there must be something wrong with it.

    Super service at NewmodusUS!

    Hi there,

I habe bought the SA4 a while ago and also got a SSD and HDD Caddy.
First I switched the included HDD, which came with the laptop, with the SSD I bought. This worked well and everything.
Yesterday my HDD came (not from Newmodeus) and I took out the DVD-Drive to replace it with the caddy and the HDD which shipped with the laptop. This worked well and Windows recognized everything fine. I can use the HDD in the caddy normally etc.
But my problem is the power management!
The Vaio Power Management still thinks the DVD drive is built in, but cannot turn it off, because it thinks it is always in use.
Can I somehow tell the power management to forget the DVD drive and control the HDD?
I experienced a quite big power use since the HDD is built in and the fan constantly runs, too...

Hi to everyone! I'm a new user and, of course, a owner of a Vaio SB! I would like to know if it is possible to boot the OS from a SSD placed in an optical drive replacement caddy instead using the main drive... does the bios allow this option? Or can the optical drive caddy be used only for data storage? I will appreciate a lot your help. Thank you in advance :)

Does anyone know if this is doable on the new SVS13 series laptops? Been searching around and haven't found any threads on it :\

I have seen the svs15 thread about this; it'll probably work for the SVS13 also.

On another note, does anyone know if the bezel for ODD can still be ordered? The website to order the part has it as 0 availability.
