    Hi,
I would like to buy the sony sr that newegg has but i want a 7200 rpm drive.

    can i install this : http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822145160

    in the sr ?

how hard is it to do it? if this was a desktop i had no problem , but i havent done much with laptops. The most I do is replace the memory but now i want to replace the hdd.

so would it work? and how hard is it to do it?

    thank you

From the pics I've seen it should be super easy. Just unscrew one of the doors on the bottom of the laptop, take out the harddrive casing, remove the HD form it, then put your new one in the casing then re-insert back into the slot..

Here's the bottom of the SR The larger panel is where the harddrive is, I believe and the other is for RAM. Picture courtesy of SilverWolf0, who loves me very much.

And here's a video (not of SR series, but concept is the same):
    <object width='425' height='344'><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/4CFrDub28ms&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/4CFrDub28ms&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" width='425' height='344'></embed></object>

As for how to install everything back... i dont know. I QQ at the thought of having to deal with reinstalling things and potentially having install issues.

BUT... I think there is a new Travelstar or new model of the 7200 RPM coming out soon, I would wait for that one if it is really that soon..but I don't know when exactly...I just remember reading it somewhere (I think on one of the newegg reviews).

    thanks for your responses

i know how to install everything back , i just want to before hand if it's hard or risky to replace it.

its just a laptop and not a desktop and i dont want to mess it up, besides replacing the ram is like really easy hehe

Most companies make it pretty easy to usually upgrade things like Ram and Harddrive.

Just make sure it's the same thickness as the old Hard Drive in it.

(Dang, I better get that SR tomorrow before it sells out. D: )

Did you pre order? Or does it officially release in stores?

I'm talking about that "unholy" Newegg one.

I plan to buy it tomorrow. Otherwise, I have to get like, a Thinkpad. Or a big 15" Asus... Erh.

(I have been noticing the popularity of the Newegg SR, that's all. XP)

I couldn't afford to preorder it. It starts above what my budget is including tax. xD

I'm sure there's nothing wrong with the newgg one by now. You get the 1 year warranty and even can buy extended ones. The only thing is the newegg one has atheros wifi card, and I think the SR from sonystyle should have the intel wifi card. There's nothing wrong with atheros, in fact, I read the was a time (2006 ish) when atheros cards held connectivity better than Intel cards... so they aren't some cheap-o rip off. It's just that intel delayed their wifi card and I guess sony might have had a deal with newegg to sell some early and had to stick in atheros in the meantime.

Yeah. I don't even know how good this new Intel card will be itself anyway. And the ones now don't have WiMax if I am not mistaken. I don't even need it anyway, I live in the middle of nowhere. xD

Yeah, I know, it's just so cheap for what it is that it'll sell out. I have a feeling that it might be permanently sold out once the stock goes out. (There was the same laptop before 8/1 on an Amazon reseller, but it was taken off on 8/1 and left only the expensive, regular priced pre-order SR's.)

I'm just glad it doesn't have broadcom in it though... I think I'd be pretty annoyed, because I like a connection to stay connected once I get it.

I don't know for sure, but it seems that there have been quite a few people whom have purchased that particular one.

What the public also doesn't know is how many they received from Sony. We also don't know if this is a one time thing... but my guess is it probably is for that insanely low price. xp I just get feelings. I've been wanting to pounce on this one since I heard about it... but I didn't have enough money.

Not sure if you ordered yet, but that 7K200 is very expensive at Newegg. Other retailers have it a lot cheaper. Maybe you want to cancel it.

    It's a good drive though.

    yea i placed my order

BestBuy had it for $10 cheaper but it was sold out online and the stores didnt have it, Frys and Circuit City dont carry it and eBay had it for like $162 i think

i know i can google but im tired lol , just wanna buy this and get it done with already. i went to the sony store today to order it but they couldnt process my order because of system problems.

had i ordered at sony store it would have been $1980 and now its less than $1700 so its all good :)
