Sorry in advance if this is something covered many times, but I couldn't find the info by searching here.

I have a Vaio VGN-SZ61WN and I would live to get the HDD replaced with the one I've just bought. Thing is, it doesn't look too straight forward to me. The HDD is situated on the bottom left of the notebook when looking at the keyboard. There isn't a way in from the back. Just thought I'd ask before I destroy my notebook :)

    Thanks in advance...

Have done this before and it isn't straightforward.

You have to remove the screws on the bottom of the case to allow the keyboard and wristrest to be removed. I think there is one in the middle and then the 3 in the front for the wristrest.

Once you've done this, you have to use a small flat-head screwdriver to undo the two small spring-loaded clips and remove the keyboard - it involves a bit of careful prying. After you have pushed the spring-loaded clips in then you need to nudge the whole keyboard towards the front of the laptop to get it past two other clips which are fixed.

Then you undo the screws holding the wrist-rest down, remove that carefully without damaging the attachment for the trackpad and then you can access the hard drive.

The hard drive caddy doesn't lift straight out, you have to wriggle it around carefully to get it come out (and go back in) - I remember spending 10-15 minutes just to be able to do this.

Good luck, it can be done. It just takes time and care.

Well, i read in the hardware and upgrade section that you have now done the upgrade.
You needed this guide. May be the guide will be useful for future reference or if you have any other upgrades planned.
