    Hi,
So a friend's father recently dropped his Sony Vaio PCG-7Z1L, and the hard drive was damaged. The computer boots up, screen works, but it gets to the "Starting Windows" screen of Windows 7 and doesn't go any farther. It also warns of "Imminent Hard Drive failure" when starting.

He doesn't want to buy a new laptop, so I was wondering if I could just replace the hard drive. Can I install any 2.5" 5400 rpm SATA HDD? Or do I have to get a specific type of hard drive? I am trying to find a replacement drive for less than $80. Is it very difficult to replace a Vaio PCG-7Z1L hard drive?

Can anyone with experience in this area provide me with some guidance and correct me if I have misconceptions?

    Thanks!
