I accidentally ripped the accelerometer off my HDD cable and it looks pretty unlikely that I'll be able to reconnect it. So, I'd like to replace it; the original model (on my SZ450n) is the STMicroelectronics LIS3L02AL. I'll probably just go ahead and order this from somewhere and get to soldering this soom back on.
Has anyone else done this? Should I just stick with the same model or can anyone think of a reason why I should change? Thanks yall,

HDD cable? Or SATA cable? I'm guessing the accelerometer is used for detecting falling drives and makes the heads park before impact? If so, I thought that would be on the hard disk....
I would buy exactly the same model, Octopart.com has a link to a company that sells it. -
cool site, ill check it out
edit: only one place seemed to have it, i sent a request for a price but it looks as though they only deal with distributors.. any idea on a replacement? -

Oh ok, I'm guessing that's a Sony proprietary FPC, makes sense. Try contacting Element14, Farnell (although I think Element14 could be related to Farnell), Arrow, Heilind Electronics or Newark. The issue is that on ST's site:
STMicroelectronics | MEMS inertial sensor: 3-axis - +/-2g ultracompact linear accelerometer - LIS3L02AL
that component is marked as obsolete, so it may be difficult to get it... Perhaps one of the distributors above may have technical staff kind enough to know what a feasible replacement may be. -
Why not just buy a new cable?

I suspect it's Sony proprietary, which means it'll be $$.
