    Hi,

Been reading this forum for a while and it's very usefull, thanks! But there's one thing that I just can't figure it out!

How on earth do you get the SZ2XP (and probably other models) to resume a wireless connection after being in standby or hibernate mode for a while.

It seems ok if I leave it for a few minutes or an hour, but if I go to sleep and try again 8 hours later it won't do it, and I have to re-start the machine.

I've tried both the Intel wireless management software, and Windows, I've also tried playing with some of the more advanced features on the intel software, but no luck.

Other than this, I think the laptop is amazing, but this basic of functions is rendered completly useless without an ability to reconnect to a wireless connection after waking up.

Please, help me someone! I'm going crazy!

    Thanks for your time,

    Tom

well, for starters you could just deactivate the wireless before going to bed.
have you tried deactivating, waiting a few seconds, and reactivating the wireless when this problem occurs.
Other than that, I'm out of ideas for the moment.

My FE does this sometimes and I found it helpful to simply refresh the available networks. After this, the Vaio automatically connects to my preferred networks.

    hi,

Thanks for replying. I tried disconnecting before stand by but it still doesn't like it when it wakes up. I've tried repairing the connection again but that doesn't work, but I've not tried refreshing the networks available list, but I don't think it'll work.

It seems to reconnect ok, 'connected' sign, green flashy icon in the system tray etc.

It gets an IP address ok, but doesn't seem to have a gateway or dns server registered. There must be an easy way to do this on a £1500 machine!

    Thanks,

    Tom

    Is your system new?

My experience is that when a computer starts to have issues reconnecting to a wireless network, it's time to have a full system restore. (Or a reinstallation of the OS if you're willing to go through even more problems to avoid bloatware.)

Otherwise, it may be a wireless network issue (though I doubt it).
Are you able to have another computer test out the wireless network?

I have had the same issues in my FE and they were solved when I turned off the option to "allow to turn off the device to save power" option in the wireless card configuration >> power management tab. Give it a look, may be you have the same option.

I occasionally get this problem with my SZ4MN/b with Vista Business. I tried like switching wireless on and off and sometimes it works.

    Or I sometimes try to:

    Run - cmd
    type "ipconfig /release"
    type "ipconfig /renew"

Hopefully that will re-connect it - works for me! :)

Thanks for everyone's advice. I'll try them out and let you know how I get along...

I figured it might be one of those things that will rectify itself if I just reinstalled windows, but I just can't be bothered! I will eventually....it always helps....

    Hi,

Appologies for replying to my own post...

Nothing seems to work, but I've noticed that if i take the SZ to work while it's hibernating or in standby, it reconnects to that network no problem, and again when I return home. Could it be something to do with the router? It's a Netgear WGR614.

Any help would be appreciated! Thanks....

    Tom

Could possibly be a router problem yes, my girlfriend used to have a Belkin Wireless Router and it caused endless problems whereas my Linksys had no problem. Same problem with my mates.

So sometimes it is the router that's playing up.

turned off "allow to turn off the device to save power" option in the wireless card configuration >> power management tab as elito said, hope it'd help.

I am still having the disconnecting problem on my Vista Business SZ330. We have 4 wireless computers in the house and the Sony is the only one that drops the connection. I know it is not a router problem. Can someone point me in the right direction concerning these Sony updates. Should I be updating the "wireless smart wi, Control Device Driver, LAN-Express AS IEEE 802.11 Wireless LAN Driver, Setting Utility Series Update, LAN Setting Utility Update or the Intel® PRO/Wireless Network Connection Driver Update. What part of the notebook do these control. Sorry for all the questions, but this is very difficult for me to understand. Thanks in advance.
