Does anyone know when the S or TX will be released with a dual core processor?

Dual core laptop processors (Yonah I think they're called) aren't due out for quite a while, not too sure of the exact date however. If you're wondering whether or not you should wait or buy now, I would buy now if you need it. There are some advantages to having 2 cores that you may not even require, so maybe you should fill out the FAQ if you're looking for a new laptop.

Due in January, but I wouldn't expect to see some notebooks until some time after that.

and with the new power requirements and resultant heat production I highly doubt some models will survive the Yonah.

Certainly not thin and lights with four fans.

You never know. Cooling the Yonah is going to be quite a challenge for the thin and light sector. I don't think 4 fans, but at least a larger fan the current with larger CFM, and on most of the time. Or maybe a new innovation in cooling! o_O

I really cannot see the S series with a Yonah as something plausible

I don't see where a dual core processor fits the T series. The T is all about small, light, and good battery life. The disk drive is slow, the graphics adaptor is slow. I don't see that a more powerful processor would improve the user experience much.

Well as much as we love/hate it, the Dothan/Sonoma ULV CPUs will be replaced with yonah ones, while not as power hungry as the rest of the yonah line, they still manage to eat up more power than the ULV ones we have today.

I'm actually optomistic about Yonah and see that the power requirements and cooling solutions should be comparable to what we have right now. (plus they are moving to an even smaller process) Is there anything suggesting otherwise?

I'd check back in January, probably won't see much until then.

The whole model series is going to need to be refreshed if it is going to support dual-core...new motherboard, etc. Yes, and as mentioned before...Yonah can consume up to 49W of power, which is much more than the current Sonoma PM, which consumes 27W TDP.

By the time dual-core processors are coming out, Sony has already phased out the S-series anyways....
