I just ordered a VGN-S56GP/S from Hong Kong.

I wonder what is the equivalent model in the US.

Or rather to put it in another way, are the codes different just because of the geographic region or is there a real difference?

    It costed me $1800

Most likely S5xx, you can check sonystyle.com yourself.
The price is a little bit higher than in States.

Hmm... I think it is a bit overpriced as well but, around $100 I suppose. It has Bluetooth built in so I believe that would cover the difference.

Another question. Does all the s5xx series share the same basic technologies. In otherwords, is an S 560 equivalent to S 580 except the processor?

As I see the only missing thing is the extra 40gb hard drive.

It also has bluetooth as a plus, which I seriously do not understand why all machines do not have it as default.

I already own a VGN-FS570 which I will give to my mother as soon as I get the machine.

Lack of bluetooth, a good graphic processor and the bulkiness are the three sole reasons that I change the notebook that I bought early April this year.

Oh.. so you say the silver one is not that good eh?

Actually I did not see the silver version but from the pictures I thought that it was sleek as well.

I hope it is not that 'ugly' in terms of aesthetics since I already bought it, eventhough I did not see it.

The difference was around 400 bucks so I felt the 0.2 increase in speed wasn't that important for me.

yep indeed.. other than that the 58GP has nvidia 6400.. compared to 6200 on s56gp. No biggie though, andyes I agree the S56GP is more bang for the bucks. It should still be quite sexy :D
do post pics when it arrives :)

If you look at the specs it has 6400 as well. I am upgrading from an FS 570 just solely for the graphics so I would not miss that one :)

Sure I would post the pictures. The ETA is 1 to 3 weeks since it is not still clear when my parents will fly from HK to Turkey.

Hehe.. My notebook just arrived today... Upgrading from an FS 570, the size difference is tremendous.

I've seen black a lot and I think the silver version is sleek as the black one. I will be glad to post some pictures but I believe in order to post pictures I need someplace to host them.

One last thing. I don't know what but something really slows the computer from time to time. Does anyone has an idea. (Although I am sure that it will be gone by the time I do a clean installation.)

Man! The sound of the non-stopping fan is like a nightmare, when upgrading from a dead-silent FS 570.

just do a clean install.. there r alot of programs running slowing down ur system
also do look for the thread on 'optimising ur notebook' in this forum.. pretty useful IMO.
I didn't do a clean install but I removed most of the useless startup and disabled somethings, managed to shut down in less than 10 seconds. Most of the time around 7-8 seconds..
as for startup I counted around 25-30 seconds max. i think could be even faster i ahve yet to get around it
