Hi all, I'm wondering which finish is less of a fingerprint magnet. I know the "regular" black is pretty bad so it's down to gold vs. gunmetal. Can some owners of either one chime in?

I have Gunmetal and it gets fingerprint easily.

This should help

Not your question but I prefer the white color because it is the best for avoiding finger-prints. Black also gathers up too much visible dust after a while. Also, everyone has black, be different and get a different color like white or gold

White ot gold is pretty pimp
But black has a sleek business look to it. -
The Premium doesn't come in white!
I ordered the gold version. I will update this when I receive it! -
The black one really attracts finger prints because it has a 'polished' finished.
I own the GunMetal version and I've seen far worse fingerprint attractors, basically because the gunmetal also has some faint profile (bit brushed aluminum effect) which makes prints less visible. -
It was an option when I ordered mine a few weeks ago here in The Netherlands. Together with gold and pink. Now I don't see it anymore. The white one is only available on the regular S13 right now.
Could be that it is classified differently in different countries, but I am sure it was an option at the beginning of august when I ordered mine. Check out the Sony Japan wensite. -
After a good amount of use I can confirm that the gold barely shows smudges at all, especially around the keyboard as that part has a brushed finish. The cover has a solid matte finish which smudges a bit more easily but it's still quite good overall.

It's screaming: ROB ME... PLEASE.... R O B . . . . . M E !!!

It's annoying, any lighter colors are simply not an option for the premium in most countries. Even a lighter color with the 1600x900 panel isn't possible in the USA, though it's available in Canada (not in the premium trim, however).
-
You mean lighter than the gold? (silver or white?)
Why, because it's gold? Pimpin' ain't easy.
-
Many countries only have choices of carbon black or gun metal for the premium model.

I have always adhered to the mantra: Make it rare enough and no-one will steal it. I mean, how many people do you know that have a golden laptop? As soon as someone steals it, people will notice someone walking with your laptop. Expensive paintings are only stolen by thiefs that already have a buyer, or stupid ones. The first case is just bad luck and with the second case it's easy to find it again.
So far it has worked pretty well.
And when you go to some poor country on a vacation, just bring a cheap netbook.

Bit off-topic but:
It didn't work for me when I was student... with my bicycle
I painted it in all kind of rainbow colors (and those were also flashy neon colors). Of course... my bicycle was stolen anyway... -
Yup^^.
Japan (iirc) gets silver or white (don't remember which) for the Premium. Canada can at least equip the 1600x900 panel onto a middle (I think it's called, "enhanced?") range silver/white model (with GPU). USA gets these shoehorned black/gold choices for whatever reason. -
Really curious why these difference apply...
Because at the end, all orders are processed in the same production plant...
There will be some buyers deciding to go somewhere else because of this...
Really strange... -
Maybe because they only make a limited amount of the various colours and countries which do not have the US keyboard layout need a different casing. I can imagine that it is very difficult to predict how many models of a specific colour are going to be sold each year.
When I was lookig for my S13P I came across the previous year model with black on the outside and metallic red on the inside. Really awesome combination, but not available this year. -

Always wanted a gold Z when they came out with it in the 2011 Z2. Finally got one and never regretted it. It's really elegant and doesn't look pimpish or garrish.`The inside is a very deep red/rust metallic paint that works perfectly with the external god to create a classy look. Sure, it's not for everyone, but if it pleases you to think of you will probably be very happy with it. I gave a little thought to resale and concluded that both demand and supply will be low, so it should not be very hard to sell.
Oh, and almost forgot, metallic gold, like silver, hides all fingerprints - completely!
So you have company, Kanuk! I am a little jealous of your gold internals. The dard red is a bit of a fingerprint/dust magnet - no where as bad as black - but I really like the grooves in the aluminum ingot that you don't get in carbon fiber, which just looks like painted plastic.
Enjoy! -
Well, most CF, even in cars, is CFRP, which is plastic resin with CF in it.

Yeah. Isn't it amazing how you change peoples' perceptions when you put fancy but rather generic adjectives in front of them: "carbon fiber" plastic resin and "polymer" anything?!!
Personally, if all metal laptops can be made at 3lbs or so, I would much rather that than this fancy plastic that scratches and cracks easily and makes the laptop light enough for my 80 yr old grandmother to carry. -
Good to know I'm not the only one who likes the gold! Actually there's another NBR member with a gold S13P.
It isn't nearly as garish as I thought it would look. I was afraid it would be more of a 70s lowrider metalflake, but it's a very uniform soft finish, basically like gold-colored aluminum.
Now all I need to do is slick my hair back and get a little sidekick:

The sidekick could be a nice accessory. Can't say about the slicked back hair- can't slick back a bald head!
