    All,

I'm thinking about purchasing a Sony S15 i7 system. I was thinking about upgrading the system with additional disk capacity and memory. I have several questions on these two topics:

    Disk Upgrade:
I was looking at adding an SSD to the system to improve overall performance and boot/restart time.

    1) First of all if I choose to just replace the current HDD (7200RPM) with an SSD would I expect to see "significant" (noticeable) performance improvements? I'm primarily planning to use the system to do software development.

    2) Can I add the SSD as an internal second drive for the system or do I have to replace the existing HDD with the SSD? Is there a slot "available" in the system or do i have to remove something (e.g.,optical drive) to install the SSD as a second drive?
I was hoping that I could put the OS and "primary" apps on the SSD so that I would get better boot/restart times (ala systems that use SSD cache to improve these times) and load app times. Is that possible? Conceptually speaking how would I accomplish that? Are there any online resources that might help me do this?

    3) Given the goals stated above are there any considerations that I would need to think about regarding the upgrade (type of disk, SATA type, etc.)?

    2) Will it void the warranty if I choose to replace/add an SSD to the system (i.e., preventing me from getting support)?

    Memory Upgrade:
Also considering whether I should just purchase memory upgrade from Sony or upgrade memory myself. I upgraded my HP Laptop with additional memory and it was quite easy to do (and much cheaper than purchasing from system manufacturer). Not sure if this is the case with Sony.

    1) Has anyone upgraded their memory on their Sony S15 laptop? If so is it easy to do? Any specific considerations in doing this upgrade?
    2) Will it void the warranty if I choose to upgrade the memory myself?

    Thanks in advance,

    Jet

You will get the same response as another user 2 days ago:

All your questions have been answered/discussed into detail many many times. And especially for your model even multiple video's are available (with respect to replacing e.g. ODD with HDD/SSD)
You can very easy find them back using search...
Suggestion: look in the owners lounge and the first 3 pages here...
