My laptop doesn't load up everytime when I try turning it on. It will sit there, the screen will not light up, but the power light is on. The WLAN light can come on, and nothing happens. I have to turn it off and turn it back on, sometimes more than once. Then it will make that sound and come on. I tried System Restore, and it didn't do anything. Has anyone had this happen to them before? Thanks in advance!

Oh buddy, I hate to break this to you. Your computer is dead. On one of the few times you get your computer to boot up, back up any critical data you can before your computer crashes again. If you do an archives search in this forum you will run into this thread. This was a serious Vaio flaw that cannot be fixed shy of a mother board replacement. There is one company on the net that will offer to give it a try to fix it. They claim to have had success. The issue is with the RAM seating. Somehow it shorts out. Sorry. Time to upgrade to an SZ.

I hate to confirm pwaggs statement but I had that issue and a couple days later my laptop was a brick. I ended up having to replace the entire motherboard.

One thing you could try is to take out the ram and re-seat it and see if that makes any difference.

Yes mine was replaced by Sony the first time. It ended up dying again. Conveniently after warranty expired. I think they determined the problem was pressure being put on the RAM module. That is speculation though. Good luck.

Thanks, I will give them a call this week. Hopefully they can do something about it, since the date on that site is kind of old.

This was an issue with the old GRX models. I had a GRX650, that Sony repaired by putting some rubber strips (similar to the rubber feet on the bottom of the laptop) on the inside of the ram compartment cover to add pressure to the ram modules when the cover is screwed on. You can try that.

Just an update for anyone who cares, I took it in to Best Buy (had the warranty) and they sent it out for repair. Of course it was the motherboard (thanks guys), and they replaced it. Now it works fine, and hopefully this problem won't come back. Thanks again guys!

Airman - after your motherboard was replaced, did the problem ever come back?
