    Howdy,

14 months with my S260 and now problems. A week ago I started having issues with powering up the system. sometimes when I press down on the power button I dont get the vaio logo and startup noise. It just sits there. If I do get it to boot and I move it around at all it will lock up on me. Sometimes it will lock up just sitting there. This happens on both AC power and battery. I was able to get it up and running to copy off all my data and now I'm doing a restore to clean it off.

Anyone know what this may be?

    Thanks!

    ~RC

Did you check the power conector and battery contacts? Perhaps re-seating the memory and hard drive will help. A fresh install of Windows will help if it is a software issue.

I had the same exact problem this past week after using my s260p for 18 months.

Powering up, the LED lights come on but the VAIO screen doesn't turn on. I would have to hold the power button to turn off and retry. A couple of tries later, it'll finally work.

I'm sending it off today with a copy of that esupport announcement and hopefully they'll fix it without charging me. Otherwise, I'm buying a different brand even though I love the size, weight, and power consumption of this computer.

Morbid please let me know how it works out for you I have sent my machine in twice now (they currently have it) and claim there is nothing wrong with the motherboard even though I am having the exact same issues everyone else has had. S170b

I got mine back with the old motherboard replaced within a week. It worked fine so I reinstalled an extra 512MB RAM (Kingston) I had taken out. The problems started happening again so I took it out and now my computer has had no problems starting up.

Before it didn't matter whether the extra RAM was installed or not. It was inconsistent in starting up. I guess whatever had caused the old motherboard to fail also fried the memory.

I had the same problems. Sent it back to Sony and they replaced the MB.
