Hi, I have an S3XP now. I've noticed the screen flickers/pulses once intermittently. The screen will just suddenly brighten and then go back to normal instantly. This occurs on both laptop and battery.

Is this normal (a common sony fault) or a fault with my vaio? Has anyone seen or experienced this?

Sony support sucks, you're lucky if you can get through!!

    Thanks

Hi Pontiac, I had the S3HP which had the same problem, apparently many people have that problem too. I returned mine because of this issue & the loud fan & heat. Unfortunatly, I did not learn my lesson and bought a FS195XP that has a buzzing problem. I got it back from repair & they had not even fixed the problem![xx(]

I won't be buying anymore Sony products in the future![ :(!]

Good luck with Sony fixing your problem, you'll need it![|)]

    Thanks for the reply mate.
Sony took THREE days to register my laptop as they said the serial number didn't exist, so they had to escalate and then register it, and they wouldn't give me support until then!

I'm now in the process of trying to get it exchanged for a new replacement. If the same problem occurs I'll try to return it.

I must say I am SERVERELY dissappointed with Sony, they simply suck and don't seem to have a clue and trying to get their apps for custom installation is a joke. They are only targeting consumers and ignoring the requirements of business users.

I will not be buying anymore Sony vaio's again.

i had for 2 weeks a S2XP and i dont remember this problem, i return mine cause it have 2 dead pixels (one read and one blue).

Now im waiting for a T2XP. Can you explain exactly what is the problem exactly to check it when it arrives...

if its a voltage problem maybe its because the new sonoma models have a 19V power supply instead of 16V powersupply of the DOTHAN models...

its a coomon thing between both models FS and S3XP

I have recently brought an S3XP and it is a brilliant machine.

However I also have the same problem with regard to screen flicker. The screen only ever flickers when the machine is running only on battery and the brightness is set at anything other then maximum. It does not happen when the machine is running on mains power or if the brightness is set to maximum.

The flicker occurs very quickly (half a second or so) and the closest I can decribe it is like when you remove / connect the power supply when the machine is on and the power plug is switched on. It is nothing to do with the power management software installed on the machine as I have tested this.

Having spoken to Sony they have eventually agreed to collect the machine to repair. I am hoping that this is going to solve the flickering problem as I have never seen this problem before on a laptop.

Apart from that this laptop is just great.

Will let you know the outcome......

    Thanks for the response....

What is the smart dimmer? The only thing I can see is the Vaio power management software and if I turn this off I then cannot make changes to the screen brightness.

    Thanks Viewfinder!!

I have given that a go and at the moment it does look promising so have cancelled the return to Sony for the moment. Will continue to test over the next few days.

Really appreciated the link as it helped alot.

    Thanks again Viewfinder.
