Formatted hard drive (not the sony partition), installed xp pro, installed drivers but I dont have the recovery cd. everything was working except the audio (even after installing the audio driver). now it wont boot up!

It starts with the VAIO boot screen then the screen goes blank with some weird characters that looks something like this: {Be_${Be_$_

I can't boot windows and can't get past that screen. Does anyone know what the problem could be?

Try reseating the HDD and RAM to make sure it's not a static issue, aside from that you might want to try your install again, will it boot to CD?
