I want to buy carrying case which is very light and small, yet hard and strong enough to protect my new baby (S580).
Sony offers two cases (Neoprene case and Portfolio case) for S series but these cases doesn't seem good (no grips, soft cover...)
What do you use? Any suggestions?

I'm looking too, as I'm planning to orden an S580. I love the look of the ZeroShock sleeves myself but it looks like the S580 is a little too big for one size but will rattle around in the next size up. Has anyone tried it in one of these? Personally I won't be carrying the power adapter very often so I only need space for the computer itself.

I use the neoprene case, but it doesn't provide much protection. But I can tolerate it since the messenger bag I put my S560 in has some padding.
I recently purchased this http://store.yahoo.com/semsons-inc/haslvsbydesv.html
and I'm still waiting for it to arrive. On the downside, the case itself weighs 0.5lb.
So I probably won't be using it everyday, or I might just return it if I don't like it. -
Hi Valkyrie,
That case was kind of similar to something I was looking for before. If you could let us know what you think of it when you get it that would be awesome.
The one I found that seemed okay is the Incase Slim Sleeve sold in Apple stores, but I'm not sure if it provides good protection. It comes with a shoulder strap I believe. I don't really like how the color is off black though.
I thought the slim carry case offered by Sony was pretty nice, but it is only for the T series and won't fit the S series. I wonder if they are going to make one for the S series.
So far, I'm still in search of the perfect slim carrying case. If I find anything decent I'll report back. -
I measure the weight of my neoprene slipcase today, and it's about 180g.
The tube case is very similar to the original sony vaio tube case only released in japan, but is much cheaper, and it's only 0.5lb, which is around 226g. So th elast thing I need is how much bulkier it is compared to my current neoprene case.
I'll update it once I got it. Hopefully on Wednesday. -
Could you please give some more specifications of the neoprene case? I may also buy that one in addition to a tough one. It is very light, and I believe S580 fits well in it. What's the size of the case? Does it worth 23$?

Hi. I was wondering if any of you have consider this case for your S series ?
.. would it fit ? I own this case and have used it with my R505GL for quite sometime, and I am interested in buying a S560 now and I would like to use it with it also. Please, let me know, thanks! -
valkyrie - I am very interested in this case. Can you provide a review?

I received the hardsleeve. I'll try to write a nicer review for both my cases.
In short, I prefer the neoprene case. The hardsleeve is bulkier (~1cm thicker), I already expected this though.
The thing I don't like is the "ripple" effect from the shell's skin. I'll try to post some pics later, but I hope you can picture what I mean. It's like the skin is loose and doesn't adhere to the hard shell surface. Sort of like an unmade bed. But only on some small part of the sleeve. Actually the other side of the sleeve is smooth.
Now, both cases fit the S560 real nice, except that on the hardshell sleeve, the velcro strap slightly protrudes. I guess it's not long enough to accomodate the S560. But again, it's very minor.
That's all I can think of for now, and as a reminder, the hardshell is a tubular design. -
Here're the pictures of both my cases:
From the first picture, you can clearly see the ripple on some part of the case, but the other side of the case has no ripple.
Also, you can see from the second pictures how the case is fully closed without the laptop, followed by when the laptop is inside.
The last 2 pictures are to show how nice the laptop fit on the case, albeit the above "problems". Oh, and no rattle whatsoever, and the velcro strap works well. It's not one of those flimsy crappy velcro.
Now, the materials usd for the tube are quite sturdy. Both the top and bottom of the tubes are made of hard and stiff materials, whereas the body of the tube are made by softer, yet still stiff material. Personally I'd think this will adequate protection to the laptop, but I think you can still harm your laptop if it falls, even when it is secured inside the case. But for minor bump as in traveling in bags, it provides more than enough protection.Attached Files:

Now, here're the remaining pictures of my neoprene case.
This is the original neoprene case offered by Sony for the S series.
The pictures appear grey, it's due to lighting. In real life, it's much darker, and it's sleek. It fits the Vaio S560 like a glove. No "rattle" of the laptop while secured inside the case. I think it's "waterproof" to a certain degree, as in droplets of water/moisture.
Again, for protection, it definitely won't protect the laptop incase it falls. But it's adequate to protect it from scratches. But be careful with the zipper though.
I already have a padded messenger bag, so I will be using the neoprene case. Also, the hardsleeve case is ~1cm thicker copared to the neoprene case, but the remaining width and length are comparable.
I'd rather use the original japan only case for the s series though. It uses a velcro straps instead of the zipper, but material wise i think it's similar to the neoprene case. Only problem is, I could no longer find it on ebay.Attached Files:

What about the Portfolio case for S notebook? Does anybody have this case? What are the sizes of this case?

I'm going to return my hardshell sleeve. Unless anyone is interested in buying it from me. It will be $35 shipped.
