Has anyone else had problems with the keyboard and the cursor jumping around.

In the two weeks i've had this laptop i've probably sent 10+ emails by mistake because as i'm typing it mysteriously sends them. I'm not typing anywhere near the CTRL + S keys too.

Google only revealed this similar user, but no solution.

    Please help.

    Thanks in advance.

The first thing you should do is run virus and spyware check to make sure your laptop is not infected.

Then, try disabling your track pad to see if it is caused by you hitting the trackpad accidentally. Also, check your Windows accessibility options and make sure there isn't any "unwanted help" given by Windows.

If both fail, you can try restore/update your drivers as the article suggested. Still no luck, call Sony and request a repair.

For what's it's worth CTRL+ENTER will also usually send email, but you're probably not hitting that by accident either. I also suspect that your trackpad might be registering a tap from something, and disabling that temporarily would help you to be sure. For that matter if you were to plug in an external keyboard I wonder whether you could disable the internal one somehow.

    Thanks for the tips.

I'm going to try disabling the trackpad. I've seem to have narrowed it down to the cursor jumping up several lines, which could explain why i'm sending emails (my send button is at the top)

The first thing I did when I got it was format it and re-install only the necessary things. I tried updating my touchpad driver from the support site , but oddly enough it says its not compatible with my laptop.

Think I might be talking to Sony in the near future.

    Thanks again.

Please keep us posted on this. My S580 should arrive today and I'll be reformatting mine as well. Can you offer any other advice on the process? I've seen a few explanations of how to do this on earlier S-series models, but nothing on the S5nn series in particular, and I don't know what might have changed.

    Songdog, sure thing.

I think i've seen in many posts, complaints about the fact that Sony doesn't ship just the Windows XP CD. The recovery CD you can create has all the Sony apps on it. :(

I can't remember completely, but I think I used an XP pro disk I had laying around, and just used the Windows key that I purchased with the laptop.

On a side note, I contacted Sony support today and none of their suggestions worked. (reinstall the Sony Shared Library, and reinstall the touchpad driver) The touchpad driver keeps giving me the stupid not compatible with your model message.

The Tech did point me to an article in their knowledge base, so I tried covering my touchpad up. Without the driver installed I'm not able to disable it.

Right now, I have a think post it pad taped over my touchpad. So far, I haven't had any problems, but am not considering this case closed until I can guarantee it's working.

I have a co-worker away on a business trip that also got a S580 recently. I'm going to check with him to see if he has this cursor problem as well.
