Trying to gather information on if you buy the SE with a single HDD if you can add 2 SSDs and set up raid 0.

This does not mean remove the optical drive.

If you order an SE from Sony you have the option of dual SSDs in raid 0.

Does anyone have any information on this and if it requires additional hardware?
    1.8" SSDs?
    Additional Cables?

Pictures of single drive configuration and dual drive configurations?

this wont work/wont produce any benefits.
Sony's solution works by connecting 2 drives though one proprietary port on the motherboard, that supports sata3 bandwidth. They use a special ribbon cable and modified/stripped of casing drives to squeeze them in. I believe sony parts USA would be able to sell you the cable, but I am unsure if you could remove the casing on some retail drives to fit them in, or if the sony ssds are connected by sata at all. Either way, because both drives are fitting though sata3, I doubt there will be much benefit vs buying a single sata3 ssd.
Here's is a picture of the setup, looks pretty hard to replicate: http://www.notebookcheck.net/typo3temp/pics/c564f4a95d.jpg

The big benefit is reaching a desired storage capacity cheaper even if I had to get the 256gb option.

However it sounds like that is not an option as I really don't like the idea of ruining the warranty on $300+ drives.

This is really a shame. I would love to see ifixit or someone tear into a dual ssd model to give all of the missing data. However it appears that you would be required to void the warranty of the laptop to install this in one that came configured with a single hdd.

    Thanks for the insight though.
