    HP DV4 14" 4.8 LB vs. SONY S 13.3" LB
searching uber lightweight very fast laptop to serve as my one and only computer
I will take it everywhere with me in my backpack on my bike .. so it has to be sturdy and very easy to carry (I'm only 5' female..)
    main uses:
1)***heavy web searches : 20 + web-pages open SIMULTANEOUSLY, plus mult doc pages open

    2) Language study & tutoring : listening, copying, downloading audio-pod-casts... would like to have capacity to record my own voice too... would like to be able to edit parts of the dialogues if possible
(I'm told there is a free program "audacity" which allows one to control pitch and speed of dialogues ...hope to being using this too.

    3) Family Photos.. would like to load all family photos and create slide shows

    4) may take some statistics classes - may need to load STATA, R, SAS...

    (Prefer back-lit keyboard if possible)

I really like the lightness and seemingly small size ...easy portability of the Sony... it also has a backlit keyboard I'm afraid that even if I elect a backlit key board for the HP it will not be as bright ... no idea why I have this concern.... just that the HP seems more spartan
Sony is only 3.8 lbs including the battery!!! only 13.3 "
    HP is 4.8 lbs

Do both of these computers come with roughly the same software? I'm not computer savvy and will not know how to set anything up...(my current old computer has Office Professional ... I'm hoping to contact MS and get a newer version for the laptop....)

Do either of these computer Companies have a better record in terms of low frequency of problems

Overall which of these computers will give a more reliable, more delightful experience...?

Also will there be more sales Dec. 26th? Must I buy today?????
    Sony: 649 or 699
    HP 499 + $25 for backlit board
