    Hi,

I just bought a Sony VGN-SR19VN et I notice that when used on battery, the processor (Intel P8400) works at FID 6x VID 1.000v (1600 mhz) whatever settings I used, wheras on power supply I can use it at max FID 8x VID 1.250v (2260 mhz).
Is this normal ? Is it a hardware or software limitation ?
I tried every possible settings with RM CPU clock but no way to use it at full power on battery.
Can someone confirm these results ?
    BTW i use XP SP3.

Sounds like a setting in your BIOS, but I can't be sure. :S

You can't change anything in the SR bios, except for booting and security option.

Check the Vaio control center settings. It's some where there or in other power management settings.

Might be due to SpeedStep, so maybe some Battery Stamina thing is kicking in. When you're off AC and on a specific power profile, it will limit the speed (and FID) so that it uses less power.

I tried every possible settings with and without Sony Center and also RM CPU Clock to no avail.
Could some other owner of a SR or a P8400 cpu confirm these reading (via Cpu Clock for instance) ?

Indeed disabling Thermal protection did the trick.

That sounds like it could do some damage in the long run....
