    Hi,

I lost my sony tz recovery discs. Therefore, I read somewhere on this forum that if I get an original Vista Business CD, I can do a clean install with it, and then use the Product Key on the bottom of my Sony TZ 190N/B (which is for vista business). I installed vista business with my product key and had no problems. I then uploaded all the drivers from the sony website for the sony tz 190N/B to my newly clean install laptop with business.. All drivers work...

    HOWEVER......

I uploaded the "SONY UTLITIES" driver which controls all the "hotkeys" functions (IE: volume adjust display = F3, F4, screen brightness adjust display= F5,F6, etc....) As soon as it finished uploading the drivers successfully (by clicking finish)... the drivers work..... BUT...............
... The second I RESTARTED the computer and came back to my main desktop screen.. I tried to press the buttons for volume, and screen brightness with the Fn button... AND THEY STOPPED WORKING!!!!

To try to fix it... I reinstalled the "Sony Utilities" driver.. and once it finished.. They worked again!! BUT..... AGAIN.... I restarted the computer... and they stopped working again!!!!?????! AHHH!!!

For some reason... even though i install the driver.. and it works once it is finish.. if you shutdown or restart... the settings are non functioning anymore..?????????

Before I did the clean install.. I called a sony backstage rep.. who said I should have no problems with the drivers or hotkey functionality.. and he told me to do a clean install and use the drivers on the webstie...

I went to a SONY store today to talk to another rep... and i was told..that the drivers on the website are not the same ones that are from the sony recovery disc cd that you need to create once you buy a sony laptop for backup.... He couldn't figure it out..and said I would have to come back.. so i can get it recovered with the sony recovery disc they will provide..and i cant use sony vista business bare clean install!

Can someone please try to help me out with my non-working hotkey function after a clean install... My TZ 190 is real fast because it is cleaned out well.. no more bloatware.. and i would hate to recover the laptop with the sony recovery disc!

Thanks! any help would be very appreciated :)

also... I would get this message after I restarted my computer and the Hotkeys were NOT working...

    -------------------------- Red X Message ------------------

    "Microsoft.NET Framework"

    X

Unhandled exception has occured in your application. If you click Continue, the application will ignore this error and attempt to continue. If you click Quit, the application will close immediately.

    --------------------------------------------------------------------

I would then attempt to reinstall the "Sony Utilities" driver.. the hotkeys will work .. but when i restart.. they do NOT work anymore.. and i get the above message...

this happens.. over and over, and over.... how do i fix this message & hotkeys...

ALSO.. What is "Microsoft. NET Framework"

    please help me!!!

Nickmax. thanks for the QUICK reply!!!

    however...

I DID reinstallall the drivers from the actual sony website after I did the clean install with vista business ...ONE BY ONE... after each driver i installed.. i restarted my laptop to refresh it....

    1) Is there a certain order to install the drivers???? (i recall someone talking about a certain order to install the drivers..or other drivers wont work.. or function incorrectly...

The sony style backstage technician said the recovery disc that i made and lost.. has the drivers in it (which i have seen before in it)... but he said those drivers are much different than the drivers on the sony website.?!?!? (I don't understand or see the connection that my recovery disc drivers in which you can get from the cd and install one-by-one... is DIFFERENT... than the drivers sony puts out on the website??!?! why would they be diffrent.. it doesnt make any sense.....

    please help...

The Sony tech I spoke with on the phone did mention that the drivers needed to be installed in a certain order but I didn't "get" where I would find that order either......

posts like these give me cause to wait and see how it all shakes down as I see plenty of people having problems with clean installs..on tz19x

I installed all the drivers, restarting when one requested. Each was installed in alphabetical order.

I then installed the utilities, with the first two being the two packages and then each other one alphabetically, restarting when requested.

I have no issues with my install.

    seems simple enough in theory

myself I just need to be assured all will go as planned

not easy for me to get things going right once they take a bad turn

    I hate panic...

    NANAKI,

(first off..thanks again for the quick reply! i appreciate it!)

on the other hand... my question is...

do you have the US version of the sony tz? or is yours the international version of the tz?

i ask this..because most people with clean install problems are on the US version of the TZ.

The international TZ laptops have no problems....

BTW... What do you mean when you said you installed the utilities.. the first two being the "TWO PACKAGES"????

and... one more thing.. did you install from the Sony Recovery disc????

    thanks!

Mine is the Japanese version, but I used the TZ1 drivers and utilities + the FeliCa port driver (Japan-only component).

The first two utilities that I installed were the Sony UtilsDLL and Sony Shared Library. Then I just went down in Explorer and installed each in their alphabetical order.

    I used a Vista DVD.

This is install order for SZ.. I did clean install and everything works perfect, i guess it should be almost the same for TZ

    1) Sony Shared Library 3.0.00.10180
    2) Sony Utility 7.0.00.11210
    3) Setting Utility Series 2.0.00.11230
    etc...

Here is shared lib for your TZ190 http://esupport.sony.com/US/perl/swu-download.pl?mdl=VGNTZ190NB&upd_id=2653&os_id=29 and here is the utility package - http://esupport.sony.com/US/perl/swu-download.pl?mdl=VGNTZ190NB&upd_id=2787&os_id=29

Why isnt TZ90 series listed in esupport??

Because it's from Japan and not the US. The TZ90 is also just an owner-made model of the TZ1/TZ2 line, in Japan.

I have read somewhere to install Shared library and utility first! Always first! Then it doesnt matter on order of installing separate drivers..

Yes I did it in order i wrote 1) 2) 3) (because i have utility and utility series). I havent found utility only for TZ. Then I was looking what still didnt work, found driver and installed - it means that it doesnt matter if you install grpahisc or sound in different order..

Try download the files form links posted above and install on clean install of Vista.. Hope that helps..
