    Model : SONY VAIO FS740/W
    Battery Model : VGP-BPS2A

Last night while working, my laptop suddenly turned off. Since then it is not powering. When I plug in my adapter, I get the green light on my AC adapter but no lights on laptop, no green battery charging light. I know AC adapter is working fine (checked with different model sony vaio laptop). I know my battery performance is very poor, less than 30 minutes fully charge. I removed the battery and tried to turn on the laptop on AC but no luck.

Opened and checked for any sign of damage or burnt parts. No fumes, no burnt smell, nothing. Tried turning on the laptop by removing parts like DVD drive / RAM / hard drive / fan / battery / processor one at a time to isolate the bad component. All times the laptop did not power up.

    1) Does anyone know what might be the problem?
    2) Can you run the laptop on AC without battery? read somewhere that, VAIO does not allow laptop to run if there is some problem with battery. Is it true?

    Any help is appreciated.

    Thanks

I don't believe the "not allowing to run on ac without battery" is true. Have you tried pulling the CMOS battery to reset the BIOS and leaving both batteries off of the notebook for 10-15 mins, then try it?

Thanks XGX2007. it works! Resetting CMOS battery did the trick.
It was not easy finding or getting to the battery tho.
