hey guys i was wondering if you could help me.
i have a problem with my 3 month old vaio SA and I cant seem to play most games on it because of the keyboard problem.
When i press the down button and the right button at the same time, I cant press any other keys, and when i press the right and up button at the same time the same thing happens, which is a problem when i play games like fifa 12. In fifa 11 i just usesd the alt, control, app and period key for the movement but I cant do that anymore...is this a keyboard problem to me or just the whole public in general?

it's called KB ghosting, and is present because companies are too cheap to put on about 1USD worth of SMT components onto the KB PCB.

It's called " n key rollover" with 'n' standing for the max number of keys that the anti-ghosting setup can handle (or if it's just "n," than it means no ghosting is present in any condition). What is less labled, is which key combos may also cause ghosting.

I know some MS keyboards have no ghosting, no matter the combination or interface used, but there are others, too.

EDIT: or just reinstall your game. It could be a TOTALLY unrelated issue (to KB ghosting).

A simple trick to demonstrate KB ghosting on some KB, is to press down on both shift keys, and try to type a sentance in.

i.e, press and hold down both shift keys and try to type (ignore any punctuation):
"hello my name is newly minted for you and my zangy lack of interest"

My SC KB comes up with:

    EOMYNAMEISNEYMINTEORYOUANMYZANGYACKOINTEREST

Other model KB and different desktop KB will have different results.

The result of a $50 Logitech external keyboard. Fail. I'll try my home machines. This is actually an interesting test.

Any chance you can play with an external keyboard? Ghosting is somewhat of a common problem...for example, the G74SX is a dedicated gaming laptop but also has ghosting issues.

The other option would be to return the Vaio SA (if there's still time to do so) and get an Alienware M14x. I have not heard any complaints of ghosting or anything like it on the M14x, and unlike most other "gaming laptops," it's actually a little bit portable.

lol, I considered a m14x before getting the SC (ordered a SA today, however).

For the maxxed out of both, same screen res, almost same battery life
, same annoyingly loud fan. Just the m14x can have a quad core, and is generally accepted to have MUCH better speakers. Not only that, the matte screen protectors from Dell can make the screen much more useable :)

Not only that, add in the slice battery, and you'll have decent airflow for the S 2011 line, and nearly the same size as the m14x (just not the weight).

I think the m14x GPU is nearly twice as powerful, though.
